On Wednesday, August 21st we were excited to celebrate the 2nd Annual Picnic By Design in downtown NYC! The event took place on an amazing rooftop in Soho overlooking the skyline where many talented designers came together to help raise funds to support DIFFA: Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS. Almost 200 people attended and over $30,000 was raised! 45 lucky designers had the chance to create one-of-a-kind picnic basket settings for auction-winning guests including Eric Cohler, Tyler Wisler, Marie Aiello and many more. DIFFA Board Chair, Cindy Allen, and DIFFA Executive Director, Johanna Osburn, spoke about HIV/AIDS and how DIFFA is making a difference by providing funding for organizations that prevent, educate and care for those living with HIV/AIDS. Other reputable attendees included the Editor of Dwell, Kelsey Keith, and DIFFA Trustees, Marc Blackwell, Ilene Shaw, and Ed Wood. Of course Picnic By Design would not have happened without all the generous volunteers who came together to make another successful event feasible! We’d love to thank our team here at Clark Gaynor, in addition to the team at Input Creative Studio, Corse Design Factory, and Becky Yee Photography! We look forward to an even more successful Picnic By Design in 2014! Event sponsors included: Starbucks, Lenovo, Robert Allen, Maya Romanoff, Dwell, Canard Inc., Patrón, La Crema, and Stone Brewing Co.
Our team’s design was a based on a deconstructionist’s view of a classic whiskey barrel (Thanks Kelly!). The greatest challenge was opening up the barrel itself. Several heavy power tools later, success! Thanks to our friends at Essex Valley School for lending us their shop. Robert Allen graciously donated fabric from their Dwell collection giving us an eye poppingly colorful pallette. A little clean up, some high gloss verdant paint… Did I mention color?! Adding casters for mobility and some well placed velcro, this puppy is ready to travel. Thanks to all the incredible designers and the effort they put into their creations.
Til next year!
